“Fishing Together” Scientific Conference, September 25–27

"Fishing Together" Scientific Conference in Port Torredembarra
From September 25 to 27, Torredembarra will host the “Fishing Together” Scientific Conference, an initiative that will bring together researchers, recreational fishermen, and boaters to study the marine biodiversity of the Costa Daurada.

For three days, Port Torredembarra will become a meeting point between science and society. The “Fishing Together” Science Conference will combine marine research activities, fish tagging, scientific data collection, training, and outreach, with the goal of improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and encouraging public participation in research.

One of the main initiatives will be the electronic tagging of large coastal fish. Recreational fishermen will assist in catching species such as Spanish mackerel, Spanish mackerel, amberjack, striped seabream, and dentex.

The data collected will be incorporated into the European RESMED+ project and the Catalan Telemetry Network, an infrastructure consisting of more than a hundred acoustic receivers that makes it possible to study fish movements along the coastline and gain a better understanding of their behavior and how they use different marine habitats.

The event will also include the collection of scientific data on various species found along the Torredembarra coastline, such as the raor, the bacoreta, the lampuga, and other coastal and pelagic species of interest. The identification, measurement, and recording of these specimens will help expand and update scientific knowledge about the populations found in this area of the Costa Dorada.

Torredembarra will welcome local fishermen and guest fishermen from various parts of the coast, who will participate together in the conference’s various scientific activities.

The program will be rounded out with lectures open to the public on the tracking and tagging of fish, seabirds, and cetaceans along the Costa Daurada, as well as scientific field trips focused on bird watching and the photoidentification of dolphins.

The Fishing Together Scientific Conference is organized by Scientific Angler, in collaboration with Port Torredembarra, the Biodiversity Research Institute of the University of Barcelona, ICATMAR, SEO/BirdLife, and TRUNCAT.

Through this initiative, Fishing Together aims to demonstrate that fishermen, boaters, and the general public can play an active role in scientific research and marine conservation, turning their knowledge, experience, and participation into tools that serve marine biodiversity.
